About the Role:

As the Legal & Compliance Officer, you will be at the heart of safeguarding the organisation against regulatory, legal, and compliance risks.

You’ll work closely with senior leaders, influence governance structures, support strategic decisions, and embed a culture of compliance across the organisation.

Key Skills:

  • Strong understanding of organisation risk and internal controls
  • Expertise in compliance frameworks & governance processes
  • Exceptional report writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to interpret legislation and provide practical guidance
  • Legal drafting and review capability
  • Proficiency in MS Office and MS Teams

Key Responsibilities include:

Risk & Compliance Leadership

  • Implement and manage enterprise risk and compliance frameworks.
  • Conduct internal control testing and ensure alignment with the Risk Management Framework.

Regulatory Intelligence & Monitoring

  • Maintain our regulatory universe and keep executives well-informed of legislative changes.
  • Execute compliance reviews and monitoring activities in line with the compliance monitoring plan.

Compliance Risk Management

  • Own and maintain the Compliance Risk Management Plans (CRMPs).
  • Identify, assess, monitor, and report compliance risks.

Reporting & Governance

  • Prepare high-quality Executive Risk and Compliance reports.
  • Engage with committees, senior stakeholders, and—when required—regulators.

Third Party & Contract Governance

  • Oversee Third Party Risk Management.
  • Maintain and update the contracts register.

Policies & Documentation

  • Develop, review, and maintain policies, procedures, and governance documents.

Training & Awareness

  • Lead the annual risk and compliance training programme.
  • Develop learning content and track training effectiveness across the organisation.

Advisory & Business Partnering

  • Provide trusted legal, compliance, and governance advice.
  • Translate complex legislation into practical business guidance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • LLB or equivalent compliance qualification
  • Postgraduate qualification in Compliance Management would be advantageous
  • Membership with Compliance Institute South Africa
  • 3–5 years’ experience in legal and compliance (preferably in financial services)
  • Strong knowledge of POPIA and regulatory frameworks
  • Experience engaging confidently with senior leadership
