SAS Developer


SABRIC is looking for an experienced SAS Developer to develop, maintain, enhance, and support SAS environment as well as to develop, maintain, enhance, and support integration between SAS and the systems with which it interfaces. The position is based in Midrand (Remote work applicable and aligned to SABRIC’s policies).

Key Responsibilities

Software Development and Configuration

  • Develop new and maintain existing SAS programs to analyse industry crime
  • data, support data requests, including data processing, data cleansing and exploratory data analysis (EDA)
  • Develop and support SAS programs to run automated jobs to extract data, perform statistical analysis, and generate reports and alerts.
  • Design, develop and modify data extraction and transformation routines for SAS integration.
  • Assist the rest of the development team with to obtain and integrate data from other systems with SAS, as well as from SAS to other systems.
  • Promote usability and software development best practices, e.g., management of source code, change management, etc., and follow SABRIC standards and best practices for coding, testing and documentation
  • Perform data quality control checks of SAS code and deliverables Ensure that application code is secure and conforms to accepted security frameworks, e.g., OWASP.
  • Document and maintain SAS system, configuration and operational documentation.
  • Participate in the requirements analysis process.
  • Understand use cases, write functional specifications and design documentation and assist with feature documentation.
  • Define test plans for both IT and User Acceptance testing Design, implement and maintain ETL processes using PostgreSQL
  • Remain up to date with emerging technology that can improve the delivery of SABRIC’s services.
  • Work with the end user to confirm the reporting needs and determine where existing data resides so that their requirements can be effectively met.


  • Adhere to all policies, follow all processes, and produce and store audit
  • evidence.
  • Test for and remove vulnerabilities in code.
  • Adhere to the Change Management Process, produce required Change
  • Management documentation and obtain approvals prior to releasing changes
  • into production.

  • Remediate vulnerabilities identified during scans and penetration tests when
  • required.
  • Understand and apply best practice in the development environment.

Cross Role Support

  • Serve as backup to the other developers when required.
  • Ensure that the SAS developer role has affective backup in the event of SAS developer not being available.


  • Document all SAS application configurations and processes.
  • Assist with the documentation of training manuals when required.


  • Tertiary qualification in Information Technology or relevant equivalent experience
  • SAS certification


  • 5+ years of experience as an Application Developer with a focus on SAS programming and data analytics preferably in a banking environment

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep understanding of SAS Programming with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Understanding the ETL concepts and solid experience with ETL tools.
  • Practical experience in SAS VI and VA tool functionalities.
  • Experience in Linux for validating and managing backend OS services, Logs, etc.
  • Knowledge of SAS environment manager for User and environment management.
  • Understand and be able to apply common development processes, e.g., change management, release management, etc. Solid Experience
  • SAS Viya tools like SAS Studio V, SAS VI, and SAS VA.
  • BASE SAS, Proc SQL , SAS Macros, etc.
